If a local government check is deposited in person, and the local government is in the same stated as our bank, and the check is deposited into the payee’s account, is that check subject to next day availability? Is it permissible to place a case by cased hold giving the check second business day availability?

I reached out to Deb Crawford, a very experienced Reg CC expert, and she responded with the following:

“You cannot place a case by case, but you may place an exception hold.”
