    We passed over the Large Bank threshold at the end of 2017 and will need to start collecting CRA data next year. Is there a document similar to the HMDA Getting it Right that gives you the codes needed for each field to collect loan level data to eventually report the annual aggregate data? This seems like it would be an easy thing to find but so far I have not had any luck. Any help is much appreciated!

    Since your bank will have exceeded the large bank threshold for both 2017 and 2018 it will need to begin collecting data in 2019.

    It is possible that you maybe overthinking the issue with the codes. There is no need for a book explaining codes. For small business and small farm loans you only collect:
    (1) A unique number or alpha-numeric symbol that can be used to identify the relevant loan file;
    (2) The loan amount at origination;
    (3) The loan location; and
    (4) An indicator whether the loan was to a business or farm with gross annual revenues of $1 million or less.
    The FFIEC publishes A Guide to CRA Data Collection and Reporting that may be helpful.

    Not sure if this will be helpful or not but if you are referring to the CRA Loan Type Codes see the 2019 FFIEC CRA File Specifications, page 22. https://www.ffiec.gov/cra/fileformats.htm

    This is our first year reporting CRA data. Can anyone explain the loans that are reported as loan type 03 – Other Lines/Loans for Purposes of Small Business and 09 – Other Loan Data?

    Following are all of the CRA Loan Types:

    1=Small Business
    2=Small Farm
    3=Other lines and loans for purpose of small business
    4=Home Equity
    5=Auto
    6=Credit Card
    7=Other secured consumer loans
    8=Other unsecured consumer loans
    9=Other Loan Data

    Only Loan types 1 and 2 are reported. The other loan types are optional but may be collected, and maintained for examiner review.
