For the detached structure rule, if we have a structure that is a bunk house that does not have a kitchen facility or bathroom area, could we consider that a detached structure as it offers beds to sleep in? The property is for personal, family or household purposes. I am just struggling since it has a place to sleep to consider it a detached structure. Thank you!
Flood insurance is not required for any structure that is a part of any residential property but is detached from the primary residential structure of such property and does not serve as a residence. The question is does your “bunk house” qualify as a residence. A residence is a structure that is intended for use or actually used as a residence, which generally includes sleeping, bathroom, or kitchen facilities. The definition does not require all three elements. It the structure contains sleeping, bathroom, OR kitchen facilities it is a residence.
